TysonCooper have been fortunate to have taken delivery of the beautiful Alfa Romeo Giulia for a week. The car was met with great anticipation due to its unique Alfa styling, tell-tale headlights, front grill but also containing all the modern-day technology we have come to expect in a new car.
The best thing about any Alfa Romeo is the passionately detailed and artistic Italian design. I have always wanted to drive an Alfa Romeo to experience the beauty of the car close and personal. With titanium coloured alloys, sleek curves from front to back and the head-turning Alfa front grill, we all adore, this really is a machine of the utmost beauty.
Having ticked all the boxes in terms of style and looks, I was keen to sit in the Alfa and take it out for a few hours to critique the interior and see if it stacked up as well as the exterior. I am happy to say that the car didn’t fail to deliver. With a sweeping dashboard which is home to a vibrant, easy to navigate infotainment screen, coupled with half leather interior seats which have a favourable memory option, this car was surprising me at every turn. The steering wheel is easily adjustable, has a full range of motion and is finished to a very high quality. The centre console is fitted with a wheel which is what is used to control the technology screen and is easy to use, even for the less tech-savvy driver.
Spending the weekend with my family, we went on a shopping trip which consisted of a 2 hour round trip. My partner and daughter were very much at home in the Alfa, the sound system is powerful, DAB reception in the car is also above many manufacturers, the cruise control and Satellite Navigation can be easily adjusted with a click of a button.
- Satellite Navigation
- Driving Aids – cruise control, adjustable speed limiter, reversing camera, adaptive front lighting, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing front wipers, traffic sign recognition, head up display and hill hold assist.
- Dual Zone Climate Control
- Integrated Bluetooth
- Touch-Screen Display
- Electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory
The drive is what we buy cars for, the drive. So, putting aside the fact that the car looks great and feels great I can still say that the drive is as good as any mid-range saloon I have driven recently. The steering is responsive, and the car is well planted on the motorway. With a 2.2JTDM engine under the bonnet, the Alfa is not short of power and has plenty in the tank for both motorway overtakes and negotiating country lanes.
If you haven’t guessed already, I am very passionate about this car. It is a car I have wanted to drive since its launch, and it has not disappointed me in any way. The market is flooded with premium saloons. You can choose from the; Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C- Class, Jaguar XE and later this year the all-new Volvo S60, but my advice to anyone wanting to buck the trend would be to consider something different, something with a soul, something fun, something with passion and something that will continually make you smile - the Alfa Romeo Giulia has all these things in bucket loads and we am very reluctant to hand it back!
