Completely redesigned inside and out the Mazda CX-5 Sport Nav we received for the weekend was a change, not just in size but with incredible technology too.

Exterior:

The appearance of the CX-5 is quite extraordinary, with swept-back LED headlights that adapted when on high-beam, a pentagon shaped grille and fine detailed lines. Not to mention the electric tailgate, keyless entry, privacy glass and 19 inch two-tones alloy wheels. If completely honest I fell in love with this car over the three-day test drive.

Interior:

The weekend consisted of a commute from work in Friday rush hour traffic, which in fact I didn’t mind as I played around with all the gadgets on offer and discovering it had a heads up display which was great in the dark but slightly distracting during the day. The car itself felt comfortable, the leather heated seats which you could adjust in every way imaginable to get the perfect driving position, that you could set a memory, in fact it had two memory settings.

Technology

The drive home consisted of my partner playing around with the Bose speakers and I must say the sound system is fantastic for such a family car. With so many extras as standard:

  • Satellite navigation
  • Driving aids – cruise control, adjustable speed limiter, reversing camera, adaptive front lighting, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing front wipers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, traffic sign recognition, head up display and hill hold assist.
  • Dual zone climate control
  • Keyless entry
  • Integrated bluetooth
  • 7-inch touch-screen display
  • Bose speakers
  • Electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory
  • Heated front seats and steering wheel

Drive

The drive was a smooth, comfortable ride and proved good handling with light steering on uneven roads. The CX-5, although being a rather heavy car, is quite pokey and gets up to speed rather well.

Overall Rating:

Overall, I love the Mazda CX-5 and it’s a definite rival for the Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen Tiguan. The CX-5 is an improvement from the old model in all key areas especially its drive. The technology you get as standard is fantastic for the price of the car and is as much enjoyable as the technology you pay for as extra in any Audi model.
